Alliston Case

Charlie Alliston was sentenced today to 18 months for 'wanton and furious' cycling resulting in the tragic death of a pedestrian Mrs Kim Briggs. Alliston was rightly jailed in my view but this sentence does not remotely compare with the laughably lenient sentences handed out to motorists over the years who kill / seriously injure my cyclist clients.

A few points on the licence and a small fine is routinely what happens but this is only after a traumatic trial and if the police/CPS can be bothered to prosecute. Often a motorist is able to plead guilty by post and doesn't even have to face the courtroom.
